Amit Melzer, from Tel Aviv, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2013 and studies with Jennifer Montone, principal horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Jeffrey Lang, associate principal horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full-tuition scholarships, and Mr. Melzer is the Thomas and Patricia Vernon Fellow.
Mr. Melzer has performed as a soloist with Symphony in C and the Thelma Yellin Symphony Orchestra; and as a substitute horn player with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra-Rishon Letzion, Tel-Aviv Soloists Ensemble, and Israel Chamber Orchestra, among others. He served as principal horn of Symphony in C from 2014 to 2018.
Mr. Melzer has participated in summer festivals including Music from Angel Fire, NM, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Italian Brass Week, the Salzburg Music Festival (Austria), the Baikal Music Festival (Russia), and the Youth Orchestra of the Americas.
Mr. Melzer received full scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation for the years 2008 through 2016.
Mr. Melzer began piano lessons at age five and horn lessons at age 13. He previously studied with Michael Slatkin and Yoel Abadi, both of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and he majored in horn performance at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music of Tel Aviv University.
