David McShane
Bass-baritone

David McShane, bass-baritone, was educated in the US (Missouri and Texas).

Since 1985 he has been a soloist at the Opera in Graz, Austria. Roles have included Falstaff, Don Giovanni, Figaro-Graf, Giorgio Germont, Posa, Escamillo, Don Fernando (“Fidelio”), Dulcamara (“L’elisir d’amore”),  Heerrufer (“Lohengrin”), Vater Peter Besenbinder (“Hänsel und Gretel”), Mandarin (“Turandot”), König von Schlummerland (“Das Traumfresserchen”), in Wozzeck, Lady Macbeth von Mzensk, Boulevard Solitude and Le Grand Macabre, as well as Oberst Pickering (“My Fair Lady”). In the most recent seasons before retiring in 2022 he also sang Ariodates (“Xerxes”), Sprecher (“Die Zauberflöte”), Walther Fürst (“Wilhelm Tell”), De Brétigny (“Manon”) and Sacristano (“Tosca”).

He has sung as guest in the free Viennese opera scene and at the Staatsoper, in the Musikverein für Steiermark, in Innsbruck, Luzern, Osijek (title role in “Nabucco”) and in Split.

Since 1996 he has been teaching at the KUG Kunstuniversität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz.
