Elena Varon performs music in genres ranging from classical to film to contemporary in order to show the true versatility and value of the instrument.
She has frequented in Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre with the esteemed Eastman Philharmonia and Eastman Wind Ensemble, and now has continued to share her musicianship in Corbett Auditorium at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In July 2018, Varon traveled to Cesena, Italy, to participate in the soundSCAPE International New Music Festival, where she collaborated with young composers and premiered exciting new works. Varon has also been a part of Empire Film and Media Ensemble in Rochester, where she has previously contributed to the score of Star Trek Continues, and presented live to picture concerts. Additionally, Varon made her debut in summer 2019 at the Ohio Light Opera as principal horn, where she played titles such as Into the Woods and South Pacific. She was recently awarded an honorable mention in the jazz horn solo category at the Northeast Horn Workshop for her arrangement of Coleman Hawkins’ “Body and Soul” for horn and jazz combo. This summer, she traveled to the Colorado College Summer Music Festival as a horn fellow. She currently studies Denise Tryon, and is a candidate for the MM degree at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. She has previously worked with W. Peter Kurau and Maura McCune Corvington at the Eastman School of Music (BM PC ’21).
