Originally from Wylie, Texas, Kennedy Plains has recently earned Master of Music degree at Yale University and studied with Frank Morelli, who she also studied with during her undergraduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music. She has also studied at Royal College of Music in London during Fall of 2021, studying with Sarah Burnett and Martin Gatt.

As a high-school musician, Kennedy played in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and received an Honorable Mention for the 2019 Young Artist Plano Symphony Concerto Competition. In 2020, she participated in various masterclasses with bassoonists such as Ole Kristian Dahl, Christopher Millard, Andrew Brady, Catherine Chen, and Glenn Einschlag, in addition the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Virtual Bassoon Audition Intensive. Her woodwind quintet was also a winner of the Manhattan School of Music’s Lillian Fuchs Chamber Competition in Fall of 2020. She was previously principal bassoonist of the New York Youth Symphony, and has played with the Novus Ensemble of London, as well as the Wind Orchestra of the Royal College of Music.

She has performed with various summer music festivals such as the Brevard Music Center, Spoleto Festival, the Sewanee Music Festival and substituted with the Music Academy of the West’s Academy Orchestra. At the Brevard Music Center she was a finalist in the Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition there, and in Fall of 2022 performed with the Symphony and Philharmonic orchestras at Manhattan School of Music in addition to the Brooklyn College Orchestra and the Bronx Opera. She has also performed in the Grammy award-winning album Works by Florence Price, Valerie Coleman and Jessie Montgomery with the New York Youth Symphony.
