Morgan Ballard-Wheeler hails from Tucson, Arizona, and recently completed his master’s in viola at the Hartt School with Rita Porfiris, whose pedagogical lineage stretches back to Joseph Joachim. Morgan is also a trained singer, having sung repertoire from Palestrina to Pärt, and was cast as Masetto in a 2020 production of Don Giovanni in Orvieto, Italy. Morgan aspires to conduct and has studied with Edward Cumming, Anthony Trecek-King, and Markand Thakar. Passionate for music education and outreach, Morgan has completed internships with the Baltimore Symphony and New York Youth Symphony and will return to Tucson this fall to teach middle school orchestra. Morgan studied philosophy, literature, and the history of science at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland. His other interests include photography and memorizing Shakespeare.
