Oleg Babkov is currently a senior undergraduate student at the University of Louisville, working towards his BM in Cello Performance under the instruction of Paul York. Beginning his cello studies in high school, Oleg studied with Ellen Stephens of the Northern Kentucky School of Music, performing with the Northern Kentucky Youth Sinfonia chamber orchestra. As principal, he was featured in leading roles for various arias and concerti grossi by baroque and classical composers, frequenting the stage of the Worldstrides Heritage Festivals. He would go on to perform with the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra during their 2013-15 seasons, including a tour to New York’s Carnegie Hall.
More recently, Oleg has been active as an orchestral and chamber musician, performing in programs including the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, and Brancaleoni International Music Festival. As well as many ensemble performances, Oleg has participated in solo masterclasses led by Jeroen den Herder of the Amsterdam Conservatory, Lachazar Kostov of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Norman Fischer of Rice University, and chamber masterclasses led by the Ariel and Cavani Quartets. Oleg aspires to perform alongside an opera theatre orchestra as well as teach a studio of students.
