Phoenix Mercier is a violist from the Hudson Valley, NY. Having just earned his Bachelor’s of Music from the Eastman School of Music, he will return this upcoming year for the Advanced Diploma in Performance program to continue his studies with Professor Masumi Rostad. Phoenix began his studies of violin at age 7, and discovered his passion for the viola at age 14. In addition to playing frequently with the Eastman Philharmonia, Phoenix is a substitute musician with The Syracuse Orchestra. He has played under the baton of several renowned conductors, including Leonard Slatkin, Anthony Parnther, and Jerry Hou. Phoenix is extremely passionate about orchestral playing and is honored to be joining the AIMS Festival Orchestra for summer 2025. When he is not playing viola, Phoenix is a photographer and artist who is frequently inspired by music in these pursuits.
