Dr. Rebecca Golub is a pianist and vocal coach currently serving on the music faculty at Western Kentucky University as Departmental Collaborative Pianist, Instructor, and Collaborative Piano Coordinator. In this role, Rebecca provides collaborative piano services for instrumental and vocal music majors, serves as music director and vocal coach for the Opera Theater, teaches the Piano Accompanying Course for Piano Majors, and coordinates all accompanying services within the music department. Prior to joining the faculty at WKU, Rebecca was an adjunct professor in the Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Liberal Arts, where she served as an Applied Piano Instructor and Accompanist for the university choral ensemble. Rebecca holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music with a minor in Vocal Coaching from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Dr. Andrew Harley. She completed her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and her Bachelor of Music in Music Education/Piano from Eastman.
During her doctoral studies, Rebecca received the 2023 Jean Barr Award which recognizes the artistry and excellence of a graduating collaborative pianist who has made an outstanding contribution to musical life at Eastman, the Barbara M.H. Koeng Award in 2022 which honors collaborative pianists with a passion and gift for vocal accompanying, and the Excellence in Accompanying Award in 2020. Additionally, she was a finalist in the Jessie Kneisel German Lieder competition in 2021. A devoted academic as well as performer, Rebecca was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society at Eastman in the spring of 2017.
Rebecca is passionate about promoting musical works by living and underrepresented composers, and has had the opportunity to workshop music with contemporary composers including Jake Heggie, Libby Larsen, Anthony Davis, Missy Mazzoli, and Errollyn Wallen. As a vocal coach, Rebecca has worked with singers on music in languages including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Czech, Lithuanian, and English. In the opera realm, she has served as repetiteur for a variety of productions from Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd to Argento’s Postcard from Morocco. Over the years, Rebecca has appeared at numerous summer festivals across the globe including Songfest, Toronto Summer Music Academy, AIMS in Graz, Atlantic Music Festival, and Musiktheater Bavaria. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys baking, playing with her dog Barkley, and learning foreign languages.
