Tiana Moritz
Viola
Tiana Moritz is a 2023 graduate of Texas State University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Music in viola performance and a German language minor. During her time at university, Tiana excelled academically, earning many scholarships and awards including the Presser Scholar award, the Outstanding Undergraduate Music History Scholarship, and the Texas State School of Music Upper-level Presidential Scholarship. At Texas State Tiana Moritz held the principal viola position in the Texas State Symphony Orchestra, the Texas State Opera Orchestra, and the Texas State Chamber Orchestra. She was also a member of the Texas State Graduate String Quartet/Duo as an undergraduate, having earned the Stokes Endowed Chair in Music.
Tiana has been a member of a number of festival orchestras including the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and the Brevard Sinfonia orchestra, as well as the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra. Tiana has also recently been accepted to the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria for the 2025 summer season. Besides her studies with Dr. Ames Asbell at Texas State, Tiana has studied under renowned viola pedagoges including Renee Skerik, Hillary Herndon, and Juliet White-Smith. Tiana has performed in master classes for Ann Marie Brink, Jeffrey Irvine, Lauren Hodges, and many others.
Tiana Moritz was among the finalists for the 2020 and 2022 Texas State Concerto Competitions as well as a semifinalist for the 2023 Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition. An avid performer of orchestral, opera, chamber, and solo music, Tiana has also been active in pops orchestras, performing with the likes of Micheal Buble and Audra McDonald.
After graduating from Texas State summa cum laude, Tiana became the principal violist of the Central Texas Philharmonic, a member of the Sienna String Quartet, and founded her own teaching studio in the central Texas region. Tiana recently relocated to Chicago to pursue a Masters in Music at DePaul University, where she currently studies with professor Ann Marie Brink.
