Marzio Conti has been the musical director of Oviedo Filarmonia since 2011. He began his career as flutist debuting at the Salzburg Festival with I Solisti Veneti at twenty years old.

He has been considered as one of the leaders of flute playing of his generation, and has been playing, recording and teaching for major institutions at the international level. He decided to leave the concert activity in the mid-nineties to devote himself to conducting.

As pupil of Piero Bellugi, Conti immediately carried out positions of chief conductor in various Italian and foreign orchestras. His activity constantly allowed him to direct orchestras and theaters around the world, ranging from opera to symphonic repertoire. Additionally he devoted himself to prestigious collaborations with leading ballet companies.

Conti has often taken part in television and radio programs promoting contemporary music, in addition to traditional symphonic and opera repertoire.

He recently conducted Rigoletto at the Teatro del Bicentenario in Mexico and Don Pasquale Opera Oviedo bringing a great success with critics and audiences. He is scheduled in Germany next spring with a new production of Macbeth at the Staatsoper in Saarbrrucken.
