Ellie Abbott is an American trombonist currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Trombone Performance at Northwestern University, where she studies with Michael Mulcahy, R. Douglas Wright, Randall Hawes, and Reed Capshaw.

Originally from Ohio, Ellie earned her undergraduate degree from Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College. Ellie presented her undergraduate thesis, Bridging Cultures: An Exploration of Japanese Compositions for Trombone in American Standard Repertoire, at the 2024 International Trombone Festival in Fort Worth, TX, and the International Women’s Brass Conference in Mito, Japan. This thesis included in-depth research, a recording project, and a database of solo trombone works by Japanese composers.

She is an associate member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, and in May 2025, she performed with the Colorado MahlerFest Orchestra.

In 2024, Ellie performed with the inaugural NATO Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the American Pops Orchestra and the NATO Summit.

Ellie was a winner of the 2025 Ohio University Concerto Competition and performed with the OU Wind Symphony. She has also been a finalist in international competitions, such as the Southeast Trombone Symposium Excerpt Competition and the Thailand International Trombone Festival Solo Competition.

Ellie is recognized as a Rising Artist by S.E. Shires Co.
