Operetta Concerts (with piano)

Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 19:30 – Casino Graz, Casineum

Coordinator and coach: Vanessa Bosch

The Operetta Program at AIMS is a unique opportunity for AIMS singers and pianists to become acquainted with a genre that has a vast repertoire and remains popular in German speaking countries and around the world.  Most Americans only know of operetta through two of its towering hits, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Jr and Die lustige Witwe by Franz Lehar.  At AIMS, participants will encounter other works by the famous Strauss and Lehar, as well as operetta gems by composers such as Kálmán, Lortzing, Dostal, and Graz-born Robert Stolz.  Far from being a poor stepchild of opera, operetta has vocal demands no less exacting than opera and a style all its own.  Singers looking to establish themselves in Germany and Austria will find that many opera houses regularly perform operettas and prize performers with skills in this genre.  The AIMS Operetta concerts with piano are well-attended by the Graz public, who view these concerts as yearly events not to be missed.  The programs of arias, duets, and ensembles are animated with staging and choreography.
