Sondra Brudnak
Violin / Assistant Concertmaster
Sondra won a position with the Dallas Opera Orchestra in 1989 and holds the position of Assistant Principal Second Violin. She has been the Assistant Concertmaster of the AIMS Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria since 1997, but has been attending this summer festival for three decades. It’s officially an addiction! In 2007 Sondra married the love of her life, Dr. Dan (an old country doctor) and moved to a ranch in the middle of nowhere. What a commute! In 2010 Sondra started teaching music appreciation at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX. Additionally at Tarleton, she gives chamber music recitals with her group Strings Attached. Sondra brings professional music to rural Texas as the founder of the charitable organization 51 Strings (violin/harp duo) playing music for nursing homes, hospitals and senior centers in Eastland, Comanche and Erath Counties. Sondra plays as an extra musician for the Abilene Philharmonic and Fort Worth Symphony. She has served as Principal 2nd Violin and Concertmaster for the Abilene Opera. In 2014 Sondra became the coordinator for the Ben Carson Reading Room in Gorman, TX. Carson Reading Rooms are designed to bring books to underprivileged children to help them fall in love with reading and pursue their dreams. This Ben Carson Reading Room in Gorman is the 1 st in rural TX and one of only 5 in the entire state. Sondra’s love of music, languages and travel….(the components of opera), has facilitated her and her husband’s success in hosting foreign exchange students since 2012. Sondra holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Sondra and her husband enjoy weekly ballroom dancing lessons. In addition to being an expert travel organizer, Sondra is a Master Swimmer, experienced equestrian, birder, cat whisperer, gourmet cook and stargazer.
