Sophie Urban
Trumpet
Sophie Urban is pursuing her Master of Music in Trumpet Performance (2025-2027) at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, studying with Professor David Bilger. She recently held a one-year contract as Associate Principal Trumpet III with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic (2023-2024), is an Associate Artist with the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, and works as a freelance musician and teacher. Throughout the years, Sophie is grateful to have performed with the National Orchestral Institute, Monteux School & Festival, Eastern Music Festival Orchestra, PRISMA Festival, and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). She completed her Bachelor of Music with Professor Barbara Butler at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in May 2025. Other previous teachers include Charles Geyer, Philip Hembree, Thomas Wilson, Rodney Marsalis, and Tim Hudson. Furthermore, she has served as a library intern with the National Orchestral Institute and an intern with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs in Colorado.
An S.E. Shires Rising Artist, Sophie began playing trumpet at age 7 and is honored to have been named a YoungArts Winner, received the International Trumpet Guild Young Artist Award, and been a finalist in the ICTUS International Music Competition. Outside of music, Sophie is an avid traveler, yogi, tennis player, and foodie.
