Immersion in vocal repertoire for pianists

The AIMS Collaborative Piano Program offers a unique opportunity for pianists to expand their knowledge of the vocal repertoire and their skills in vocal coaching. Pianists study with the head of the AIMS Collaborative Piano Program and also with the professional collaborative piano coaches on the AIMS faculty.

Pianists from all countries are welcome to audition for AIMS.

Collaborative Pianists are a part of the Lieder Studio program which concentrates on German Lieder, and techniques of playing and coaching the art song. Pianists enjoy many opportunities to observe voice and coaching sessions, as well as master classes with professional singers and coaches. Pianists also have performance opportunities through the many concerts offered each summer including the two performances given by each Lieder Studio. Lieder pianists are eligible to receive the Outstanding Lieder Collaborative Pianist Award.

The Cost

The Cost

Tuition: $7,250 USD (due May 15)
Audition Fee: $50 (due at audition registration – no other money is due until after acceptance into the program)
Application Fee: $250 (non-refundable, submitted with application after acceptance)
Tuition Deposit: $300 (due at time of acceptance, applied toward cost of tuition)
Administrative Fee: $75

 

Included in your tuition:
          • Housing in suites of 2-3 single private sleeping rooms with shared bathroom.
          • Breakfast daily
          • Lunch Monday – Friday
Not Included:
          • Roundtrip airfare
          • $85 Health Insurance Fee (This fee is required from all participants and provides health insurance while in Austria.)
            • Health Insurance Fee for participants whose citizenship requires a travel visa to enter Austria is $100.
          • $100 Travel Visa Processing Fee (This fee is only for participants whose citizenship requires a travel visa to enter Austria.)
          • Incidental expenses ($1000 to $1500 on average)
            • Evening meals and snacks & beverages
            • Streetcar/bus tickets and travel within Austria
            • German text book, photocopies of music
            • Incidental expenses like laundry

The Curriculum

The following courses are offered:

  • Private Lessons (twice weekly)
  • Coaching in Lied Repertoire (twice weekly)
  • Accompanying Class
  • Conversational German (Monday through Friday)
  • German, French, and Italian Diction
  • Poetry of German Lied
  • Audition Training Seminar
  • Master Classes

In addition, AIMS offers career counseling through its unique Audition Training Seminar and, for qualified participants, exposure to European agents and presenters who come to Graz in search of promising talent.
