Immersion in vocal repertoire for pianists
The AIMS Collaborative Piano Program offers a unique opportunity for pianists to expand their knowledge of the vocal repertoire and their skills in vocal coaching. Pianists study with the head of the AIMS Piano Program as well as the AIMS faculty, which includes professional coaches, voice teachers, stage directors, singers and conductors working at the top of their craft. Pianists from all countries are welcome to audition for AIMS.
Pianists may choose from two tracks of study, but may participate in only one studio at a time:
The Opera Studio program prepares the pianist to play and coach the standard opera repertoire. It covers score reading and analysis, teaching and performing recitative, cueing techniques, playing orchestral transcriptions for rehearsal, and various stylistic practices.
The Lieder Studio program concentrates on German Lieder and techniques of playing and coaching the art song. Pianists in both tracks enjoy many opportunities to observe voice and coaching sessions, as well as master classes with professional singers and coaches. The pianist also has performance opportunities through the many concerts offered each summer. Lieder pianists are eligible for the Outstanding Lieder Collaborative Pianist Award.
