Jacob Hinton
Cello

Jacob Hinton, cellist, is currently 22 years old and a recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY) as a double major student in Cello Performance and Music Theory. He first began his musical journey with piano at age 7 and started playing cello at age 9. Jacob has played with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra and Eastman Philharmonia (2020-2024), the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (2017-2020), the Missouri All-State Orchestra (2019-2020), and the NAfME All-National Honors Orchestra (2019). In past summers, he has attended Festival Napa Valley, the Round Top Music Festival, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Indiana University Summer Strings Academy. From 2017-2020, Jacob was very involved with the Preparatory Program of the Community Music School of Webster University, of which he was in a competition group for 2 years. At Eastman, he was a member of the Triptych Piano Trio.

Jacob most recently studied with British cellist, Guy Johnston, at Eastman. Previous teachers include David Kim of the St. Louis Symphony, Edward Arron (Bowdoin Int’l Music Festival), Susan Moses (IU Summer Strings Academy), and Alicia Andrews. In 2019, Jacob earned 1st Place in the Alton Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and performed the 1st movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Alton Symphony Orchestra in February 2020.

Jacob aspires to continue performing and to teach music theory and cello at a collegiate level, and he will be attending the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in the fall to pursue a double masters degree in Music Theory and Cello Performance, in the studio of Eric Kim.
