Michael Dauphinais has served as a rehearsal pianist and coach at multiple opera companies in the U.S. including Tulsa Opera, Baltimore Concert Opera, Sarasota Opera, Kentucky Opera, Arizona Opera, Opera Southwest, Opera in the Ozarks and New Jersey Opera Theatre; he was also music director for the young artists’ Ensemble at San Diego Opera. He has also performed as a chamber musician and recital partner throughout the U.S., Mexico, Ireland and Austria. An advocate of contemporary music and multi-disciplinary collaboration, Dauphinais has performed with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, choreographer Yanira Castro, Art.If.Act Dance Project, and ACME (Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble) as well as in several symposia on 20th and 21st century composers at the University of Arizona. Michael Dauphinais earned degrees in music from Western Michigan University (BM) and Arizona State University (MM and DMA). His teachers have included Eckart Sellheim, Andrew Campbell, Silvia Roederer and Phyllis Rappeport. In addition to teaching at the University of Arizona, he currently serves as the head of music staff at Opera Southwest in Albuquerque, and as the principal pianist for the Grammy-nominated ensemble True Concord Voices & Orchestra in Tucson. He is excited to return to Graz after having been an AIMS participant in 1994, a Repetitor in 2006, and an opera coach in 2015.
